YOUTH ART & EMPOWERMENT

Local Color’s Youth Empowerment Series (YES) partners with artists, organizations, schools, and families with the goal of empowering participants through meaningful art programs.

Whether it’s working directly with an artist or experiencing new mediums, YES has worked with dozens of youth and bridged relationships between practicing artists and the next generation of creatives.

Revisit highlights from our Summer 2023 Color Me Rad Program Below!

  • Color Me Rad

Artist facilitated workshops where cohorts of 11 to 13 year olds and 14 to 17 year olds take a deep dive into a new medium and develop their own art practice.

  • Jovenes Activos

In response to cultural erasure and in partnership with SOMOS Mayfair and the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, we embarked on a 2-year fellowship with 15 Jovenes from Eastside San José with support of the California Creative Communities grant from the California Arts Council.

  • LoCo Recess

LoCo Recess's mission is to empower the next generation of creatives by providing a diverse set of tools for artistic self-expression. With inspiration from families' activism supporting Black Lives Matter, we fundraised for a free, safe, week-long outdoor youth camp with collective effort.

  • Youth Design Leaders

The San Jose Youth Design Leadership Program offered an engaging platform for young locals to explore the transformative potential of design in their communities. Youth participants gained practical insights into professional design practices through immersive educational workshops while developing their skills and creativity.

  • Palo Alto Art Center Youth Mural

In the fall of 2021, the Palo Alto Art Center partnered with Local Color to host a dynamic program that brought together a group of local youth to create a stunning multi-panel mural under the guidance of local muralist SIDY.
