LoCo Recess | Fall 2020

A collaborative youth art and engagement program supported by community donations and the SVCreates Local Arts Grant. Serving 24 youths from communities of color.

Photography and Video by Daniel Zapien

LoCo Recess was a FREE week of creative workshops led by local artists and community organizers to empower and encourage San José's Youths. This project's inspiration comes from the unity seen on July 4th, 2020, during the painting of the "Black Lives Matter" mural across from Backesto Park. Local Color supports the movement toward developing equitable policies and feels grateful to work with Youths to find joy and power through art. This work was made possible thanks to community donations and the SVCreates Local Art Grant.
