About the Design

As an experienced muralist and teacher, SIDY led the young participants of the mural arts program through the process of creating an enchanting public artwork. Beginning with foundational mural design steps, he guided the group in exploring various mediums and developing motifs related to creativity, art centers, libraries, and imagination. Each student was then given the opportunity to contribute to the final design by painting a subject that represented their individual interests and strengths. Over the course of several weekend paint sessions, the students divided into groups to tackle different elements of the design, including scenery, character/portrait design, and more abstract surrealism. The resulting mural beautifully captures the cityscapes and natural surroundings of Palo Alto, as well as the unique visions and creative spirit of its young artists.
