Arts Education
Art-making opportunities & in-school creative workshops for youth.
Our Arts Education programs provide youth, aged 11 to 17, with the opportunity to create art with workshops in school, after school, at artists' studios and in galleries facilitated by local artists who are paid an above standard rate for their time and expertise.
Color Me Rad
Artist-facilitated workshops where cohorts of youth aged 11-13 and 14-17 take a deep dive into a new medium and develop their own art practice at our noble gallery & workshop space in Downtown San Jose.
Schooled
We connect teaching artists to schools and organizations across Santa Clara County, for performance opportunities, residencies, workshops, classroom and after-school partnerships.
San Jose Earthquakes Murals
Local Color is partnering with the San Jose Earthquakes on helping them reach their ambitious goal of installing 50 pieces of public art! With the help of youth, we’ve been able to bring engaging arts and sports programming to over 300 students so far. Interested in hosting a pre-designed Earthquakes mural at your site?
Loco Recess
LoCo Recess' mission is to empower the next generation of creatives by providing a diverse set of tools for artistic self-expression. With inspiration from families' activism supporting Black Lives Matter, we fundraised for a free, safe, week-long outdoor youth camp with collective effort.
Youth Design Leaders SJ
The San Jose Youth Design Leadership Program offered an engaging platform for young locals to explore the transformative potential of design in their communities. Youth participants gained practical insights into professional design practices through immersive educational workshops while developing their skills and creativity.
Youth Design Leaders Palo Alto
In the fall of 2021, the Palo Alto Art Center partnered with Local Color to host a dynamic program that brought together a group of local youth to create a stunning multi-panel mural under the guidance of local muralist SIDY.
Jovenes Activos
In response to cultural erasure, we partnered with the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza and SOMOS Mayfair to bring three youth-led murals to life. Working with the Jovenes Activos, Local Color engaged artists Mario Dimas, Sasha Mufasa and Alondra Paco to create public artworks informed by the youth’s lived experiences and ambitions.
