Local Color began as an adventurous "interim-use" project activating a building on First Street in San José. The program is possible with the support of developers who care about the community we are working to empower. Vacant buildings waiting in the planning process prior to being developed are re-opened as temporary creative co-working spaces, artist workspaces, and community gathering sites - then offered at below-market rates. Three years later, Local Color is now activating over 40,000 sq. ft. in the heart of downtown SJ! Dubbed, LC Underground, LC Keystone, and LC Autumn, each facility is shaped by its residence to meet the needs of local creatives working in a wide range of mediums and following their passions.

Ways you can become a Local Color Member...

CREATIVE COWORKING

Our version of a "hot desk" for creative folx needing a dedicated and flexible workspace. Become a Creative CoWorker and gain unlimited access to all of our available workspaces.

If your craft is storytelling, poetry, illustration, design, video editing, or maybe you have a project too messy for your current home base, a month-to-month Creative CoWorkering Membership is ideal for you! The memberships are $150/monthly.

Uniquely Local Color becomes a space shaped by its member and the shared environment can grow into unexpected sources of inspiration and collaboration.

CREATIVE WORKSPACES

With a blank slate in the form of an office or one of our "open-air" studios, create the perfect space for your creative process. Each unique location offers creatives ample space to work. See more about each location below!

Local Color's mission is to provide equitable creative studio options ranging from 12'x8' Open Air Studios for $250/month to Private Studios 15'x17' for $600/month.

We are not landlords here. We focus on providing the space needed by folx creating on a daily basis who also appreciate working amongst a blossoming community of local artists. We welcome you to reach out to schedule time for a tour!

ASSEMBLY ROOMS

The Local Color Underground features two Assembly Rooms for groups sizes up to 65 people. The rooms are available for reservation by Local Color's Studio Members, Community Organizers, Grantmakers, Workshop Planners, Photographers, Play Producers, and beyond.

The two rooms have rolling availability. We ask for a sliding scale of $20 to $50/hr, depending on the size and needs of your business or collective. This option is perfect for groups needing meeting space, room for a workshop and other gatherings needing  a little bit extra space.
