Local Color Presents

Looking for 31 Skulls Showcase & Auction? You're in the right place. The 31 SKULLS live auction is the finale, Friday, October 23. New this year: the skulls are up for three weeks!
This October, Local Color turns our new downtown home, the Big Arts Building, into a three-week art experience.
For the first time, we're transforming the ground floor of Local Color’s Big Arts Building into an immersive experience. Wander the Skull Library, where local artists transform blank ceramic skulls into one-of-a-kind works of art, gathered by candlelight in a room all their own. Larger-than-life blacklight murals fill the Mural Gallery, skull projections drift across the walls, and the whole space glows.
What’s Happening? Two big nights and two workshops over three weeks. It kicks off October 2 with Second Sight, our opening night. Two seasonal Friday-evening workshops follow. Then the grand finale on October 23: Final Fortune, our Seventh Annual 31 Skulls Live Auction.
What do the bones have in store for you? Shake the dust off your bones with a first look on opening night, get your hands dirty at a workshop, or join the goth-glam auction when every skull finds its final resting place. It all unfolds in the atmospheric glow of our Cast the Bones installations. It's our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it's what keeps Local Color running.
About 31 Skulls
Born out of the 2020 pandemic, 31 Skulls started as a livestream event intended to build community and connect artists during a time of isolation in a unique way.
Since then, 31 Skulls has grown into an annual tradition.
Artists invited to 31 Skulls are collaborators who have recently partnered with Local Color on creative projects throughout the Bay Area. Since its inception, Artists have created and donated 186 skulls to support Local Color’s mission to build equitable pathways for creatives to thrive.
